This is an ideal way to propagate seeds and cuttings on a greenhouse bench or cold frame. The cable will warm up your soil enabling you to plant earlier and look after plants easier. Simply construct a wood frame to desired size and line with polythene. Put 5cm of sharp sand into frame and lay cable on top, cover with a further 5cm of sand. the cable should should be laid in runs 7.5-10cm apart.

Higher temperatures can be achieved by laying the cable runs as close together as 5cm. In this case a PARASENE thermostat (also available) should be used to precisely control the soil temperature meeting the differing germination requirements of various varieties of seeds.
